Flip-Flop and Feed Fifty 2017

Flip-Flop and Feed 2016 occurred in Barangay Tres de Mayo on December 29, 2017. Barangay Tres de Mayo is a community outside of Digos City. The visit to Barangay Tres de Mayo was organized through Pastora Perla May D. Griffin (Pastora Pearl). Pastora Pearl has visited Brgy. Tres de Mayo in the past and suggested it to be the donation site for Flip-Flop and Feed.

When we arrived to the small community, the staff and volunteers were instantly greeted by all the children. The children ranged from ages 1-13 and were very eager to receive the items. Before we began, the children sang songs and prayed over the FFF Staff. The volunteers and our founder, Vera, arranged the flip-flops so all the designs were visible, laid out the school supplies. and stacked the boxed lunches. Each child lined up, and one by one they tried on flip-flops they liked and found one that fit or loosely fit. After finding their new pair, the child received a plastic envelope with school supplies: pencil, sharpener, eraser, scissors, notebook, and crayons. Then they received their lunch which included a filipino food called pancit, aka noodles, and chicken, as well as juice. The goal of Flip-Flop and Feed is to give canned foods one day for the whole family, and not just day-of lunch for the children but in 2016, the charity was fully funded by Vera, a college student, with some donations from family.

The children were very thankful and loved their new flip-flops that were designed with princesses, superheroes, and cartoons. We expressed that the new flip-flops were new shoes they could wear in place of many of their tattered or unmatched shoes. The school supplies serve as not only an inspiration to attend school, but also one thing less for their parents to worry about buying. The vision of FFF is to one day break the cycle of poverty, because the small things lead to big changes!
